Torture victim found dead in Tondo

MANILA, Philippines — An unidentified man, whose body bore signs of torture, was found dead behind a shipping container in Tondo, Manila Wednesday night.

Senior Police Officer 3 Dennis Javier, Manila Police District (MPD) homicide section follow-up chief, described the victim as “Chinese-looking,” between 20 and 25 years old, of medium build and at least 5’10” tall.

The man – clad in a black sweatshirt, brown pants and green sneakers – was discovered by a truck helper at the back of a shipping container along Road 10 in front of Smokey Mountain at around 10:30 p.m.

Javier said the victim’s hands and feet were tied, his face was covered with packaging tape and his body bore incisions and abrasions.

Two sachets of shabu were recovered in one of the pockets of the victim.

“There were signs of torture and he had several wounds on his body. He could have been killed elsewhere and dumped in the area,” Javier said.

MPD Station 1 commander Superintendent Rey Magdaluyo, who was among the first at the scene, said there were indications the victim was electrocuted before he was killed.

Javier said they are trying to determine the victim’s identity and the motive for his murder.

No one has claimed the victim’s body as of press time.
