GINGOOG CITY, Philippines — A barangay captain in Gingoog, Misamis Oriental has been ordered to vacate his seat after a recount showed that he lost by three votes.
Jessie Ramisola of Barangay Daan Lungsod garnered only 421 votes while former barangay captain Jovito Chavez Jr. got 424 votes in the elections last May, Municipal Trial Court in Cities Presiding Judge Eileen Joy Pakino-Bonghanoy said in a 15-page decision dated Nov. 23, 2018.
Chavez filed an election protest saying the ballots bearing the initials J.C. should be counted in his favor.
It was the first time that a barangay captain here was unseated in a recount.
