Militiaman runs amuck in Basilan; 1 dead, 2 hurt
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Philippines — A militiaman went amuck and opened fire at a checkpoint in Isabela, Basilan on Monday, leaving a soldier dead and two other militiamen wounded.
The fatality was identified as Sali Tagayan, who died while being treated in a hospital.
Alejandro Enriquez and Sahadain Indanan Mustamad of the Citizen Armed Forces Geographical Unit were transferred to a hospital in this city, where they remained confined yesterday.
Chief Superintendent Emmanuel Luis Licup, Zamboanga peninsula police director, said the suspect, Faisal Alam, shot the victims without any provocation and escaped after the incident.
