4 in Marikina City gang up, kill neighbor for 'cheating' in 'tong-its'

MANILA, Philippines — A man, his two sons and a neighbor were arrested for allegedly killing another neighbor they accused of cheating them in a card game at a wake in Marikina City on Sunday.

Senior Superintendent Roger Quesada, city police chief, ordered the filing of homicide charges against Jerry Matre, his sons Jerry Jr. and Jestoni, and John Jarlego before the city prosecutor’s office for the death of construction worker Alfredo Santos, 64.

Jerry Jr., Santos and two other neighbors were playing the card game “tong-its” at the wake of a neighbor in Barangay Marikina Heights when Jerry Jr. kicked the victim after accusing him of cheating at past 8 p.m.

Santos went home and returned armed with a knife. The suspects disarmed him and used his knife to stab him several times in the body.
