Reds kill ex-PNP intel officer in Masbate

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines — A former intelligence officer of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion in Bicol and his companion were killed in an ambush by suspected New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in San Jacinto, Masbate on Sunday.

Retired Senior Police Officer 2 Rommel Borromeo, 58, and Antonio Barsaga, 65, a former security guard, were riding a motorcycle when communist rebels set off an improvised explosive device and opened fire in Barangay Calipatan, Chief Inspector Malou Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, said.

Bullet shells for M-16 and AK-47 rifles were recovered at the scene.

Also on Sunday, Eric Tupas, chairman of Barangay Luna in Placer town, and his companion Rommie Bagaan were shot dead on their way to Barangay Daraga.
