MANILA, Philippines — The European Union (EU) has donated P9.2 million in humanitarian assistance to Filipinos affected by recent flooding caused by typhoons and enhanced by the southwest monsoon.

The aid, which was coursed through the Philippine Red Cross, will benefit 30,000 people in worst-hit areas.

“This EU funding supports the Philippine Red Cross in delivering much-needed relief assistance through the distribution of essential items including food, safe water, emergency shelter kits, mosquito nets, blankets, hygiene kits and jerry cans,” the EU said in a statement.

Government data showed that more than 400,000 people were affected in flooding in 28 provinces across the country. At least 10,000 of the victims remain in evacuation centers. – Janvic Mateo
