2 cops slain in Palawan ambush

MANILA, Philippines — Two police officers who responded to a vehicular accident were killed in an ambush in Taytay, Palawan yesterday morning.

Police Officer 3 Alexander Mimbalawag and PO1 Julpetri Gustaham, both of the Taytay police, died at the scene, according to Superintendent Imelda Tolentino, spokesperson for the Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan) police.

The officers were in a patrol vehicle on their way back to the station when they were ambushed by unidentified assailants at around 10:50 a.m. in Barangay Bato.

Reports said that Mimbalawag and Gustaham along with a team from the 401st Regional Mobile Force Company in another vehicle responded to the road accident.

After investigating the incident, the two officers headed back to their station. 

When they reached Sitio Nagtakayan, a group of men opened fire at them.
