2 held for guns at Samar port

Evelyn Macairan - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines — Two persons were arrested at a port in Samar on Thursday for trying to smuggle firearms and ammunition.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) in Central Visayas said 10 pieces of .38-caliber revolvers, four .45-caliber pistols and various types of ammunition were recovered from the suspects, whose identities were not immediately available.

The suspects, who were in a bus on a roll-on roll-off ferry bound for Ormoc, Leyte at the Marabut port, failed to present the necessary documents, the PCG said.

Capt. Ronnie Gavan, PCG-Central Visayas chief, said they coordinated with the Philippine National Police after receiving reports on the transport of firearms.

On Saturday last week, three persons were arrested in Cebu City for carrying 46 unlicensed .45-caliber pistols and ammunition.
