MANILA, Philippines — A councilor of Taguig City was arrested for allegedly carrying 32 tablets of the party drug Ecstasy and looting his room at a hotel and casino in Parañaque City last Tuesday.

Charges of theft and possession of illegal drugs were filed yesterday against businessman Richard Paul Tejero Jordan, 35, who is being detained at the city police headquarters.

One of the roving guards noticed a restless Jordan leaving his hotel room, prompting him to inspect the paper bag the councilor was carrying at around 7:40 p.m. on July 3, police said.

The bag contained items from Jordan’s hotel room: a ballpen, a silver corkscrew, a lightbulb, two face towels, a glass ashtray, a bathrobe and an iPod dock. Most of the items, valued at P22,217.70, are not supposed to be removed from the room.

Another guard recovered from Jordan’s sling bag 32 tablets later confirmed to be Ecstasy, according to city police chief Senior Superintendent Leon Victor Rosete.

The hotel security staff turned Jordan over to the Police Community Precinct 4 just before 4 a.m. on July 4.

Police also arrested 17 persons for illegal drugs in northern Metro Manila, four in the eastern part of the metropolis and two in Las Piñas. – With Rey Galupo, Non Alquitran
