Woman, son die in Caloocan fire

MANILA, Philippines — An elderly woman and her 50-year-old son died in a fire that struck Barangay Tala in North Caloocan on Monday night.

Authorities identified the fatalities as Linda Carbonel and her son, Vanjo.

Vanjo, said to be suffering from a mental illness, was seen holding a gallon of gasoline prior to the fire, according to Fire Officer 1 Jason Sarao.

The blaze started from Vanjo’s room where his remains were retrieved.

Damage to property was placed at P500,000.
