MANILA, Philippines — A suspected robber and drug pusher was killed in an alleged shootout with police in Valenzuela City on Friday.

Gary Vertosio Garchete, alyas Gawgaw, was killed  after he and his accomplice Michael Pornobe allegedly held up an Indian businessman and stole his Honda motorycle in Barangay Ugong Friday afternoon, city police chief Senior Superintendent Ronaldo Mendoza said yesterday.

Palwinder Singh, who was into lending, failed to give any money to the suspects, prompting the two to take his motorcycle, Mendoza said.

Following a tip, members of the city police’s Community Precinct 8 and the Detective Management Unit went to the suspect’s house, reported to be a drug den, in JB Juan Compound.

Pornobe escaped as Garchete was wounded in the shootout, Mendoza said.

He was declared dead on arrival at the Valenzuela General Hospital.

Police allegedly recovered a .38 caliber revolver and drug paraphernalia from the suspect.
