MANILA, Philippines — Three Abu Sayyaf bandits surrendered in Sulu on Sunday.

Hajar Abbang, 38; Kirah Ainazri, 20, and Sani, 18, both surnamed Jawad, turned over two rifles, a grenade launcher and ammunition with bandoliers to the Philippine Marine Corps Ready Force of the Joint Task Force Sulu (JTFS) and police 52nd Special Action Force.

Brig. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, JTFS Sulu commander, said Abbang is a follower of slain Abu Sayyaf leader Alhabsy Misaya while the Jawads are with the group of Abraham Hamid.

The surrenderees were brought to the Kuta Heneral Teodolfo Bautista Trauma Hospital in Jolo, Sulu for checkup and custodial debriefing.

Sobejana said more bandits have surrendered after the military adopted the proposal to provide a comprehensive reintegration program for surrenderees.

Ten bandits have surrendered in Basilan, 11 in Sulu and two in Tawi-Tawi since January. – With Roel Pareño
