MANILA, Philippines — Three months before the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections, an official of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said preparations are 85 percent complete.

The poll body’s spokesman James Jimenez said the printing of ballots and other election materials is finished.

“The (inclusion of) additional registrants will be done very soon. Most of the primary bidding was done before October,” Jimenez said yesterday.

The barangay and SK elections, which were originally set in October 2016 and rescheduled in October 2017 were reset to May 14.

“In national elections we used automation so we have eight months to prepare. We have less preparations for the barangay election because it is manual,”  Jimenez  said.

He said they are now focused on voter education, which they started simultaneous with the other preparations.

The Comelec has yet to schedule the shipping of ballots and other election materials. As policy, the farthest areas will be given priority.
