BOC turns over P90-M shabu seized in Clark

CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga, Philippines — The Bureau of Customs (BOC) turned over six boxes of shabu with an estimated street value of P90 million to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) yesterday.

The drugs, which arrived at this port on Jan. 25, were hidden among Buddha statues.

BOC Commissioner Isidro Lapeña said Customs personnel became suspicious after two other similar boxes that arrived from the United States on Jan. 23 at a forwarding company in this province were found to contain six kilos of shabu worth around P34 million.

Taib Suriog, 35, and his partner Maurica de Padua, residents of Naic, Cavite, were arrested as they received the two boxes on Jan. 24.

The US Homeland Security tipped off local authorities on the arrival of the shipment.

PDEA regional director Joseph Ladip said they are looking into the possible involvement of more people in the shabu shipments.
