Mayon continues to shoot lava upto 500 meters from crater

MANILA, Philippines — Mayon Volcano has had seven episodes of intense but sporadic fountaining from its summit crater from the morning of January 25 until 2:31 a.m. of the January 26, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.
In its 8:00 a.m. bulletin, Phivolcs said that the lava fountaining that shot 150-500 meters high and generated ash plumes that reached 500 meters to 3 kilometers above crater.
The lava fountaining lasted lasted for 26 to 57 minutes.
There have been 15 volcanic earthquakes, 19 tremor events where 7 correspond to lava fountaining events, one episode of pyroclastic density current generation from lava collapse and numerous rockfall events according to Phivolcs.
Alert Level 4 remains in the effect over Mayon Volcano, which means a hazardous eruption is imminent.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council in its latest report said that as of 6:00 a.m. of January 25, 21,733 families or 83,533 persons were affected by the continued unrest of Mayon Volcano.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Thursday said that President Rodrigo Duterte is set to visit the families affected and were forced to leave their homes due Mayon Volcano.
No date has been set yet for the president's visit.
The province of Albay was placed under State of Calamity on January 16.
