MALOLOS  , Philippines  —  At least 189 areas were added to the list of firecracker zones in Bulacan on Wednesday, bringing the total number to 391.

Reports reaching the office of Bulacan police chief Senior Superintendent Romeo Caramat showed that only 178 barangays in 21 towns and three cities in the province have yet to identify fireworks display areas.

San Jose del Monte has the highest number of fireworks zones at 60; followed by Malolos, 51; San Miguel, 40, and  San Rafael, 36.

Bulakan and Pulilan towns each have one fireworks zone.

Caramat said the community fireworks display areas would be under the supervision of the Bulacan police.

Chief Superintendent Amador Corpus, Central Luzon police director, reiterated his warning to the public not to light firecrackers outside community fireworks display areas.

Under Executive Order 28 President Duterte signed last June, local officials are mandated to issue permits indicating the date, time and specific areas where fireworks displays can be held.

“We want everyone to have a safe and happy New Year…Make sure that you are not lighting illegal firecrackers because you can be arrested. Make sure that children do not discharge fireworks. Have something to extinguish them in case something gets out of hand,” Corpus said.
