MANILA, Philippines — The flow of traffic in major roads in the metro is now back to normal as the Metro Manila Development Authority on Wednesday terminated the lockdown and the designated Association of the South East Asian Nations lanes.

MMDA Spokesperson Celine Pialago said the ASEAN leaders already left the country and only few delegates’ staff members are still in the country.

"Ang ASEAN lane po sa EDSA is now finally terminated, kasama na rin 'yung pagbubukas ng Roxas Boulevard and other locked down areas. Back to normal na po tayo," Pialago said in an interview with dzMM.

The traffic authority started clearing the divider cones along EDSA  on Wednesday morning following the leaders and other delegates’ departure.

The Department of the Interior and Local Government earlier implemented a lockdown in the roads affected during the conduct of the ASEAN summit. The traffic and transport authorities announced alternate routes for the three-day holiday.

Last Saturday, several motorists and commuters complained about the heavy traffic along major roads due to the arrival of ASEAN delegates in Metro Manila.

The DILG subsequently asked barangay chiefs in Metro Manila to clear the roads within their jurisdiction to avoid the gridlock experienced by motorists. — Rosette Adel
