MANILA, Philippines - The wage boards in the Cordillera Administrative Region and Bicol have approved an increase in the minimum wage.

Based on the wage orders, the cost of living allowance of workers in the Cordilleras will increase by P15 while workers in Bicol will get an increase of P25 or P32 in their daily wage.

This means the daily pay of workers in sectors employing 11 or more workers in Baguio and La Trinidad will increase to P300; Tabuk, Bangued, Bontoc, Lagawe, Banawe, Buguias, Bauko, Sagada and Tublay, P290, and other areas in the region, P280.

Companies with up to 10 workers in Baguio and La Trinidad will get P285; Tabuk, Bangued, Bontoc, Lagawe, Banawe, Buguias, Bauko, Sagada and Tublay, P280, and other areas in the region, P270.

The salary increase, which covers Mountain Province, Abra, Benguet, Ifugao, Kalinga, Apayao and Baguio, is effective on Monday.

In Bicol, the daily wage of workers in establishments with 10 or more employees will increase to P290 and to P280 in establishments with fewer workers.

The wage order, which covers Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Masbate and Sorsogon, took effect yesterday.

Under both wage orders, only establishments affected by natural and man-made calamities can apply for exemption.
