Car for rent scam suspects charged

Rey Galupo - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - The Valenzuela police filed charges yesterday against two women allegedly behind a car for rent scam following the recovery of 19 vehicles in Cavite and Laguna this week.

Reports said that Rafaela Anunciacion, who allegedly owns a rent-a-car firm, and her agent Jhennelyn Berroya were nabbed in Biñan, Laguna. But police denied the arrests.

Authorities said Anunciacion’s group gypped more than 1,000 car owners in Metro Manila and Regions 3 and 4-A.

Senior Inspector Leo Glenn Calabio of the Valenzuela police said some of the vehicles were leased by taxi operators in the city to Anunciacion.

Calabio said the vehicles were recovered in three separate operations.
