MMDA, LTO team up vs drunk driving

MANILA, Philippines - The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) inked a memorandum of agreement yesterday to crack down on drunk drivers.

MMDA officer-in-charge Tim Orbos said road crashes in Metro Manila increase by around 20 percent during the Christmas season.

In Metro Manila, an average of 262 deaths were recorded in 2015.

“That’s what we want to prevent because sometimes you figured in road crashes because you are either tired or drunk,” Orbos told reporters.

Orbos and LTO chief Edgar Galvante signed the agreement, which deputizes MMDA enforcers to implement Republic Act 10586, the Anti-Drunk and Drugged Driving Act of 2013.
