KORONADAL CITY, Philippines – A fireman's plan to make extra income may land him in jail and get him booted off the fire bureau after he was caught in a buy-bust operation.

Agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency in Region 12 arrested Fire Officer 2 Crisber Ganao in this city on Tuesday while in the act of selling P500 worth of methamphetamine hydrochloride (shabu) to agents disguised as drug dependents.

Lyndon Aspacio, PDEA regional director, said they staged the operation after receiving information from Ganao's neighbors, who said he worked as a drug trafficker when off duty.

Local officials said Ganao distributed shabu selectively, only selling drugs to few friends and relatives.

Neighbors said they have long been telling Ganao to stop from vending shabu, but that he would not listen.

Aspacio said they will prosecute Ganao, who is being held in a PDEA detention facility, for violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.
