Bus robber killed in shootout with cop in Pasay

MANILA, Philippines -- A bus robber was killed after he traded shots with a responding police officer in Pasay City shortly after a heist before noon on Thursday.

A report reaching the Southern Police District said the robbery happened inside a Metrolane bus plying the Valenzuela-NAIA route at about 11:40 a.m.

Police said three unidentified men declared a robbery as the bus reached the vicinity of Gil Puyat Avenue and FB Harrison Street. Police said the robbers, who were armed with handguns and a grenade, then started gathering valuables from the passengers.

As the bus reached Leveriza Street, police said, the robbers prepared to get off. As they were getting off, the passengers alerted PO1 Rey Bautista, who was on routine patrol.

Bautista then responded and the robbers opened fire as they started to run away from the bus, the SPD said.

One of the unidentified robbers was killed in the shootout while the other two managed to escape.

Police said recovered a cal.38 revolver, a hand grenade and most of the passengers’ valuables from the dead suspect.
