Mike Frialde - Philstar.com
MANILA, Philippines — For the second Metro Manila Shake Drill, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has divided Metro Manila into four sectors where various simulated earthquake scenarios would be played out.

For the West sector, the MMDA would set up a command post at the Intramuros area where they would stage a collapsed structure rescue and victim extrication at the MMDA Workers’ Inn. They would also stage fire suppression drills at the Liwasang Bonifacio, Manila Hotel and at the Baseco Compound. Mass evacuation drills would also be staged at the Manila City Hall, the Malabon City Hall and the Navotas City Hall.

For the South sector, the MMDA would establish a command post at the Villamor Air Base and stage a collapsed structure rescue at the northbound side of the Guadalupe MRT station. A water rescue would also be simulated at the section of the Pasig River in Guadalupe, Makati. Simulated mass evacuations and debris clearing operations would also be staged at the Taguig City Hall, the MMDA building, at the SM Mall of Asia, and at the Baclaran Church. A rescue operation and a headcount of inmates would also be done at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City while a collapsed structure rescue operation would be simulated at the Alabang Viaduct area also in Muntinlupa City.

At the North sector, the MMDA would set up its command post at the Veterans Memorial Medical Center. Scenarios set up at this sector includes a simulated high-angle rescue at the Quezon City Hall, a fire suppression drill at the Quezon Memorial Circle, the Sandiganbayan and the Mandaluyong City Hall. Rescue operations would also be simulated at the SM North mall and at the SM North footbridge.

Meanwhile at the East sector, the MMDA would set up its command post at the LRT depot and would stage a relief goods transport simulation using the Pasig River Ferry System, a looting scenario at the Riverbanks Mall in Marikina City, and simulated collapsed structure rescues at the SM Marikina mall and Barangay Barangka in Marikina City.

The second Metro Manila Shake Drill to be headed by the MMDA will be staged simultaneously with the National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill. It starts at 9 a.m. and is expected to take around an hour and a half to finish. — Infographic produced by Levi A. So; Designed by Jonathan Asuncion
