Cops ambushed in Masbate

PIO V. CORPUS, Philippines (Bicol Standard) — A hot pursuit operation was launched Wednesday early morning by the Masbate Provincial Police Station and the Philippine Army to track down suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) who allegedly ambushed five police officers assigned in this town.

The ambush occurred on or about 6:15 a.m., Police Senior Inspector Malu Calubaquib, PNP Bicol spokesperson reported.

The same source said that the police personnel were on their way back to their station after rendering security assistance during the fiesta celebration of Barangay Bunducan here.

PO2 Rodolfo A. Tayog Jr. was injured, Calubaquib said.

The ambush site is about seven kilometers from the Municipal Police Station.
