La Union lawmaker unhurt in bomb attack; 4 wounded

AGOO, La Union, Philippines – La Union second district Rep. Eufranio Eriguel survived a bomb attack on his convoy yesterday morning.

Two of Eriguel’s bodyguards and two others who were in his backup vehicle were wounded and brought to a hospital in San Fernando City.

“I learned that they are in critical condition,” Eriguel said.

Police identified the victims as Senior Police Officer 2 Jack Baguan, Samuel Ofiaza, Anthony Casem and Jovanne Cacayuran.

Initial investigation showed the blast occurred along Verceles street in Barangay Sta. Barbara in this town.

Chief Superintendent Ericson Velasquez, Ilocos police director, said the improvised explosive device was planted on a motorcycle.

Eriguel and his party reportedly came from a campaign sortie.

The lawmaker, who is on his third term, is not running for any position, but his wife Agoo Mayor Sandra Eriguel is running for congresswoman. His daughter Stephanie is running for mayor of Agoo.
