Non-working holiday today in Bulacan

MALOLOS, Philippines – It is a special non-working holiday today in Bulacan.

Malacañang yesterday declared the holiday under Proclamation 1204 to give residents of Bulacan the opportunity to celebrate and participate in the activities to mark the 87th birth anniversary of former senator Blas Ople.

Ople, who also served as secretary of foreign affairs, Senate president and secretary of labor, “devoted his life to selfless dedication to our country and people,” the proclamation read.

Gov. Wilhelmino Sy Alvarado said the theme of this year’s activities is “Ka Blas, huwaran ka sa isip, sa salita at sa gawa.” He said a program would be held at the Gusaling Gat Blas F. Ople at the provincial capitol here.

Ople’s children, Susan, a senatorial candidate, and Felix, a member of the provincial board, will attend the program that will include the unveiling of Ople’s bust and the holding of an exhibit by the Hagonoy art group.
