CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – Consumers being serviced by the Cagayan Electric Power and Light Co. (Cepalco) will experience longer blackouts following the load curtailment imposed by the National Power Corp. (Napocor).

Jaime Rafael Paguio, Cepalco senior vice president, said  Napocor has imposed an 18-megawatt load curtailment pending approval of its provisional authority for the purchase of an additional 10 MW from a new modular diesel power plant operated by Mindanao Energy Systems Inc.

Cepalco has a peak demand of 150 to 170 MW within its franchise area in Cagayan de Oro and the towns of Tagoloan, Villanueva and Jasaan in Misamis Oriental.

Meanwhile, a 10-hour blackout will hit Santiago City and Ramon town in Isabela tomorrow, the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) announced yesterday.

The NGCP said the power interruption is part of the annual preventive maintenance and testing of a power transformer at the Santiago City sub-station, which covers the distribution facilities of Isabela Electric Cooperative 1.

The blackout is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. – Gerry Lee Gorit, Raymund Catindig
