Resolve estafa raps vs Delfin Lee, homeowners ask SC

Ding Cervantes - The Philippine Star

BACOLOR, Pampanga, Philippines – Two homeowner associations representing some 10,000 families at the Xevera housing projects here and in Mabalacat City have asked the Supreme Court to immediately resolve the syndicated estafa case against Globe Asiatique president Delfin Lee, citing the deteriorating condition in their communities.

Some 300 residents of Xevera have received foreclosure notices from Pag-IBIG, which refused to accept their monthly amortization after Lee was arrested last year.

Lee has been detained at the provincial jail in San Fernando City.

In an open letter signed by homeowner association presidents Antonio Galura of Bacolor and Rolando Santos of Mabalacat and the other officers, they said their communities used to be “modern enclaves” with churches, schools, markets, club houses and sports facilities. They said children of owners of Xevera housing units also received free education.

“All of these were lost after the housing scandal broke out in 2010,” the homeowners said.

“We believe the time is ripe to expose the real motive of the politician behind the alleged housing scandal…so that the case can move on to its final resolution,” they stated in the letter.

Contrary to the allegations of Pag-IBIG, the homeowners said they were not fake buyers. Nobody has shown up to claim ownership of the units they bought, they added.

In a statement read by his lawyer Willie Rivera before the Senate blue ribbon committee last April, Lee blamed Vice President Jejomar Binay – whom he accused of trying to extort  P200 million from him as head of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council – for his arrest.
