CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Philippines – A P1-million reward will be given to informants who could help in the Bureau of Customs (BOC)’s campaign against smuggling, an official said yesterday.
Alvin Enciso, BOC district intelligence division chief, said the reward system is being implemented to boost the agency’s campaign against illegal smuggling based on orders of Customs Commissioner Alberto Lina.
Earlier, district collector Ruby Claudia Alameda admitted there were instances when smugglers managed to pass undetected through the ports of Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental.
Enciso said the P1-million reward for informants would pass through a tedious process.
He said smuggled shipments must be seized, forfeited in favor of the government and auctioned before the reward could be given to the informant.
Meanwhile, the BOC-10 has intercepted a shipment of 12 disassembled multicabs.
Enciso said the shipment was misdeclared as replacement parts and the owner failed to secure a permit from the Department of Trade and Industry.
