4 dead, 5 hurt in Camarines Sur road mishap

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – Four persons were killed and five others injured in a multi-vehicle collision along the national highway in Barangay Panagan in Tigaon, Camarines Sur on Monday.

Police said the accident occurred when a delivery truck, which overtook a passenger bus, rammed a tricycle before hitting a motorcycle and another truck.

Desederio Piaso and his 10-year-old son Daniel, who were in the tricycle, and motorcycle riders retired Army soldier Vince Laurence Verdejo and his daughter Jeanette died at the scene.

The injured were brought to the Bicol Medical Center in Naga City.

The accident snarled traffic along the national highway for almost an hour.

Senior Inspector Ryan Atanacio, Tigaon police chief, said the driver of the delivery truck, Rizalde Catubig, 23, a resident of Pili, Camarines Sur, lost control of the wheel when he overtook a Florencio bus in Sitio Osine.

Atanacio said Catubig, who surrendered to the Pili police, is facing charges of multiple homicide and multiple physical injuries.
