MANILA, Philippines - Thousands of commuters riding the Light Rail Transit 2 (LRT-2) would have to extend a little more patience in walking up and down the train stations as escalators are still out of service.
This comes after no private contractor participated in the bidding of the maintenance contract.
In his official Twitter account, LRT Authority (LRTA) spokesperson, lawyer Hernando Cabrera, said the bidding for the repair of the train station's escalators did not materialize as no one joined the activity.
"Bidding for the repair of LRT2 escalators was published last month, submission was Wednesday last week
"Unfortunately no one participated in the bidding, resulting to failure. We are now preparing 2nd bidding," Cabrera said.
Cabrera did not give any further details on when the second bidding for the maintenance contract will be held.
Meanwhile, Cabrera said the LRTA is now finalizing the bid documents for the rehabilitation of the trains.
Last June, LRTA set the deadline for the submission of proposals for the three-year maintenance contract of the LRT-2.
It also gave interested companies until June 19 to submit their proposals for the P1.33-billion contract.
Around eight foreign and local companies had expressed interest in the maintenance contract, incuding DM Consunji Inc., Marubeni Corp. of Japan, Autre Porte Technique Global Inc., Global Epcom Services Inc., Busan Transportation Corp. of Korea, Comm Builders & Technology Phils. Corp. and Telefonika Inc.
