Davao City hikes reward for drug tipsters

DAVAO CITY, Philippines  – The city government of Davao is offering a P20,000 reward for anyone who can provide information leading to the arrest of illegal drug traffickers and users.

The reward used to be only P5,000, but Mayor Rodrigo Duterte decided to increase it to P20,000 to convince more informants to come forward.

Duterte earlier warned illegal drug dealers and users here to stop their activities or get out of the city.

In a recent visit to Iloilo, students of the Western Visayas State College asked Duterte how he handled the drug problem in his city.

“I don’t like people involved in drugs. I don’t care if they are soldiers or policemen. Drug dealers and criminals in my city have only two destinations – jail or funeral parlors,” he told them.

The mayor said six months of shabu use would cause brain damage.

“There is no such thing as a successful rehabilitation for a drug addict. Once you lose a child to drugs, you lose him or her forever,” he said.
