Cop hurt in gun attack

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Philippines – Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas shot and wounded a police officer in Sagada, Mountain Province yesterday.

Senior Police Officer 3 Willy Degay was driving a sport utility vehicle when he was shot in Barangay Bangaan. He was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment of four gunshot wounds.

Rebel attacks reportedly continue in the area despite the pullout of Army soldiers and members of the police public safety battalion in April last year in compliance with the declaration of Sagada as a peace zone.
