MANILA, Philippines - One was killed while two others were injured Thursday morning during a fire that broke out in a community Quezon City, razing almost 2,000 houses.
Reports said that one of the injured was fire volunteer Paul Manuel who was rushed to the Chinese General Hospital for a severed hand after being hit by debris from liquefied petroleum gas tanks.
Initial reports said that the blaze started around 6:45 a.m. in Kaingin Bukid, West Riverside, Barangay Apolonio Samson in Quezon City.
More than 100 firetrucks responded to the scene to put out the flames.
Around 8 a.m. , fire officials raised the response status to general alarm.
Local officials said that there are more than 4,000 houses,mostly made up of light materials, in the community.
