Fortun clarifies he is Cedric Lee's spokesman

MANILA, Philippines - Popular lawyer Raymond Fortun has clarified that he is acting only as a spokesman and not one of the lawyers of businessman Cedric Lee, who was among those implicated in the mauling of actor Vhong Navarro inside a condominium unit in Taguig City.

"Spokesperson lang po," said Fortun in a text message to the Star on Friday.

In his Facebook account, Fortun said he loves the underdogs and that a recent episode of "The Buzz" made him realize how powerful media entity can sway public opinion to demonize a person, such as Lee.

"I enjoy the good fight, and I relish handling the toughest cases. Lawyering for me has never been about the money. It's about the pursuit for truth and justice, it's about fairness and equality," he said in his facebook page.

"Cedric Lee is, in my eyes, an underdog. Justice must be served but it must not be in accordance with the conductor's beat of someone along Panay Avenue. So I contribute my voice into this dispute not to twist the truth but to make sense of the madness," Fortun added.

Fortun also apologized to the people who may think that he let them down by being Lee's spokesman.

"At the end of the day, I concede that I cannot please everyone, but my only comfort is that I can face my Maker with a straight face and tell Him that Inhad done my duty to Him and my profession," he said.

As for lawyer Dennis Manalo leaving Navarro, Fortun said he wishes him well as he now becomes the lawyer of Ruby Tuason.

"I wish him well," Fortun said in a text message to the Star.
