PCL aspirant wants FOI bill passed

Sta. Josefa, Agusan del Sur, Philippines – Municipal councilor Reynaldo Quijada of this town is running for national president of the Philippine Councilors’ League (PCL) and if elected, he said he would push the passage of the Freedom of Information (FOI) bill.

“This FOI bill is key in solving corruption in this country; without this, people’s participation in curbing the burgeoning corruption is not encouraged. And so, we in the PCL must strongly endorse this,” Quijada said.

Quijada said if elected PCL national president, he would ask the full support of all 17,000 city and municipal councilors to pass a resolution urging President Aquino to push the FOI bill.

Quijada, a member of the administration’s Liberal Party, also wants the transfer of the national offices of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, Mines and Geosciences Bureau and Department of Agriculture to Mindanao where he said they are most needed.
