MALOLOS CITY, Philippines – This city’s mayor cheated death when his vehicle was rammed by a 14-wheeler trailer truck in Pulilan, Bulacan last Thursday night.
Mayor Christian Natividad, his driver Nicanor Reyes and security aide Maverick Jake Perez sustained injuries, while another bodyguard, Roderick Santiago, was killed.
The truck driver, a certain Roger Garces, is now in police custody and faces charges of reckless imprudence resulting in homicide and damage to property.
Superintendent Helson Waling, Pulilan police chief, said Natividad’s group had come from Baliwag town and was headed toward Plaridel when the truck hit the driver’s side of their Mitsubishi Montero along the Pulilan-Plaridel Diversion Road.
The crash heavily damaged Natividad’s vehicle, killing Santiago on the eve of his 30th birthday.
