Reds declare unilateral truce

BAGUIO CITY, Philippines – Communist rebels have declared a 16-day unilateral truce until Nov. 24 in typhoon-devastated areas, according to the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CC-CPP). 

The CC-CPP ordered all New People’s Army commands and “people’s militias” in areas ravaged by Super Typhoon Yolanda to lay down their arms and help affected residents in relief and rehabilitation.

The ceasefire declaration covers the Eastern Visayas Regional Command, Panay Regional Command, Central Visayas Regional Command, and Negros Island Command, it said.
