1 hurt as NPAs storm another Agusan Army base

BUTUAN CITY, Philippines – Suspected New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas who stormed an Army patrol base in Sibagat town, Agusan del Sur last Friday attacked another military detachment here Saturday night.

The attack on the Army patrol base in Sitio Mahayahay, Barangay Anticala left Pfc. Reynaldo Tuba, detachment commander, wounded.

Tuba sustained gunshot wounds in his thighs and was brought to a hospital here for treatment.

The rebels failed to overrun the detachment as soldiers and members of the Civilian Active Auxiliary (CAA) stood their grounds.

Six rebels and a militiaman were killed during the attack on an Army base in Sibagat town last Friday.

Lt. Col. Leo Bongosia, spokesman for the 4th Infantry Division, said the gunfight between government troopers and communist rebels lasted for six hours.
