(UPDATE) 3 hurt in Makati City fires

MANILA, Philippines - Three persons were hurt as a residential building and a slum area in Makati City were hit by fire on Thursday morning.

Authorities reported that fire broke out first at 10 a.m. in a slum area at the Botanical Garden near the Makati Medical Center in Barangay Pio del Pilar.

No one was hurt in the fire, which reached the general alarm before it was placed under control by city firemen.

Affected residents of the slum area were staying at the corner of Urban Avenue and Dela Rosa Street.

Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay Jr., meanwhile, reported that another fire struck a residential building at the corner of Bagtikan Street in Barangay San Antonio.

Binay said in a radio interview that three persons were hurt in the fire. He said two of the victims were given medical assistance after inhaling smoke from the fire and the third victim sustained a minor injury.

The mayor said the city government will provide assistance to the affected informal settlers.
