DND to hold bidding for PMA sports complex

MANILA, Philippines - The Department of National Defense (DND) will hold a bidding for the construction of a sports complex in the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) in Baguio.

The DND, through the Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corp., has allotted P105 million for the project, a bid bulletin signed by Defense Assistant Secretary Efren Fernandez showed.

The project will involve the design and construction of the PMA Sports Complex, which will replace the old facility being used by cadets.

“It is designed to address the requirements of our cadets,” PMA spokesperson Capt. Lynette Flores said in an interview.

“We have an existing sports complex but it’s old. We are upgrading it,” she added.

The new sports complex will replace the Jurado Hall, the covered gymnasium located in Fort del Pilar.

The DND is now inviting companies to submit bids for the project. The deadline for the submission of bids is July 18 at 10 a.m. The bids will be opened on the same day at the Longayban Hall in Fort del Pilar.

To be eligible, a bidder must be “a design-construction-oriented affiliated group of professionals” and should have “experience and capability in the type of services, and the field under consideration, especially on the design and building of a sports complex,” the bid bulletin read.

The bidder should also satisfy the requirements of the Philippine Contractors Accreditation Board.

Bidders should have completed a single contract similar to the project. Specifically, the prospective bidder should have undertaken the building and design of structures worth at least half of the approved budget for the project.

The DND said the bidding for the project would be compliant with the provisions of the procurement law.

A complete set of bidding documents worth P50,000 is available at the DND Bids and Awards Committee in Camp Aguinaldo.

The documents may also be downloaded from the Philippine Government Electronic Procurement System website but the bidders will have to pay for them before submitting their offers.

A pre-bid conference will be held on June 18 at Fort del Pilar to enable the prospective bidders to learn more about the project.
