2 cops get brand-new pistols after daring escape from NPA captors

MANILA, Philippines - Two policemen, who survived a daring escape from the New People's Army (NPA), received brand-new firearms from Philippine National Police chief Director General Alan Purisima.

Purisima gave Police Officer 3 Ronald Muñez and PO1 Lemuel España brand-new 9mm Glock pistols. The top cop said that he was impressed by the bravery of the two policemen.

Muñez and España were abducted by members of the NPA last April 13.

After almost a week of captivity, the two policemen escaped from their captors in Sitio Moto, Barangay Poblacion in Loreto town by killing their guards.

The two policemen were also able to take two AK-47 rifles from their guards.

Muñez ha said that the NPA had already "indoctrinated" them, but they sensed that the rebels were still planning to kill them.
