Complaints mar Bulacan bets’ covenant signing

Dino Balabo - The Philippine Star

MALOLOS CITY, Philippines – Not all candidates for local posts in Bulacan were invited to the signing of a peace covenant for safe, fair, honest and accurate elections here yesterday, some candidates have complained.

Dax Uy, candidate for provincial board member of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), and Jose Cundangan, an independent candidate, said they did not receive an invitation from the Commission on Elections (Comelec).

The other candidates added that the signing turned out to be a campaign rally for Liberal Party-National Unity Party coalition candidates, noting that even their supporters participated in the unity walk to the Malolos Cathedral.

Teddy Natividad Jr., UNA candidate for councilor in this city, said they were told that only candidates will  join the unity walk.

The Comelec and the Parish Pastoral Council for Responsible Voting organized the event.

Officials of the Philippine National Police led by Senior Superintendent Joel Orduna, acting Bulacan police director, and Col. Bernado Ona of the Army’s 56th Infrantry Battalion based in Norzagaray town were also present.
