More soldiers deployed for BARMM poll duties

COTABATO CITY, Philippines — The Army’s 10th Infantry Division (ID) dispatched on Sunday two more units to help secure polling sites for the first Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) parliamentary election on Sept. 14.
Maj. Gen. Alvin Luzon, 10th ID commander, sent off the 67th Infantry Battalion to augment the 6th ID in Central Mindanao and the 102nd Division Reconnaissance Company in Basilan.
The 6th ID has jurisdiction over Maguindanao del Norte and Maguindanao del Sur and Cotabato City, where the Bangsamoro regional government center is located.
Basilan, a component province of BARMM, has two cities and 11 towns covered by the Army’s 101st Infantry Brigade under the 1st ID.
“The personnel of these two units had been ordered to do their best and perform their election security assignments under the guidance of the Commission on Elections to the best they can,” Luzon said.
Capt. Steffie Salanguit, spokesperson for the BARMM police office, said the Philippine National Police units in the region are all set for the poll this month.
