Suspect in Makati engineer's killing nabbed

LEGAZPI CITY, Philippines – A suspect in the killing of Makati City engineer Nelson Morales was arrested yesterday afternoon in Barangay Poblacion in Libon, Albay.

Chief Inspector Fernando Barateta identified the suspect as Jonathan Madrinero, 28, a resident of Barangay Molosbolos also in Libon town.

Barateta said Morales’ aide identified the suspect as one of the gunmen.

Barateta said Madrinero’s name was not included in the initial list of suspects charged by the police.

Morales was shot dead last Sept. 7 while going out of the Saint Nicholas chapel in Barangay Estancia, Malinao, where he and his sister Vice Mayor Alice Morales were sponsors in a wedding ceremony.

Another suspect, Roderick Sarahan, was arrested a day after the shooting.

The slain engineer was reportedly planning to run for mayor in Malinao.
