Mild quakes recorded in Samar, Masbate

MANILA, Philippines - A magnitude 3.4 earthquake rocked Eastern Samar yesterday but did not cause damage or injury, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Phivolcs said the tremor occurred at around 11:02 a.m. and was centered 28 kilometers southwest of Can-avid, where it was recorded at Intensity 2.

The quake, which had a depth of one km, was tectonic in origin. Tectonic pertains to the movement of the earth’s crust.

Phivolcs also recorded a magnitude-3.6 quake 21 kms northwest of Masbate City, Masbate at 5:06 a.m. yesterday.
