MANILA, Philippines — Universal Pictures and Dreamworks Animation dropped a new trailer for "Forgotten Island" featuring more characters appearing in the animated movie inspired by Filipino folklore and mythology.

The newly-released trailer is likely the same footage previewed at this year's Annecy International Animation Film Festival, a leading event for all things animated.

"Forgotten Island" co-directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado, the latter a Filipino-American, are leading a showcase of the upcoming movie at the film festival.

The new trailer begins with already-presented scenes of lead characters Jo and Raissa meeting as schoolchildren, vowing to be best friends.

The girls visit Jo's Lola voiced by Dolly de Leon who tells them a story of the titular island Nakali filled with magical creatures — that is until the neighbor interrupts them and gets a telling off.

"You don't find the forgotten island, it finds you," Jo's grandmother says after the girls vow to search for it.

Now grown up, Jo (Gabriella Wilson, better known as H.E.R.) and Raissa (Liza Soberano) are sucked into a portal shaped like the sun on the Philippine flag as Simple Minds' "Don't You (Forget About Me)" plays and they land in Nakali, right in front of a Sarimanok.

A were-dog named Raww (Dave Franco) welcomes them to the island that appears a paradise upfront but is actually dangerous for mortals like the best friends.

"You shouldn't have come to my world!" warns Lea Salonga's Dreaded Manananggal, described by Raww as a demon who takes away memories the longer a person stays in Nakali.

Raissa begins to worry that she and Jo will forget they were best friends or that they ever met, and the two embark on perilous adventures before the title card flashes.

The trailer ends with Raww changing into an Aspin (Asong Pinoy) after spotting a Tikbalang practicing Arnis, the were-dog admitting he goes "full dog" whenever he sees sticks.

Also in the voice cast are Filipino-American comedian Jo Koy, Filipino-Canadian actor Manny Jacinto, Filipino-American actress Amielynn Abellera, Jenny Slate, and Ronny Chieng.

It was recently unveiled that Lea, H.E.R., and Lea will contribute to the film's official soundtrack, as well as BINI, SB19, Ruby Ibarra, Carl Angelo, and Sophia Laforteza, the Filipino leader of global girl group Katseye.
