MANILA, Philippines — A live action "Harry Potter" series is reportedly in the works at HBO Max.

According to Variety, the series is in early stages of development.

According to the report, there is no word yet on what the focus of the show would be or what part of the “Harry Potter” timeline it would focus on should it move ahead.

In a joint statement by HBO Max and Warner Bros., however, both parties denied that there will be a "Harry Potter" series.

“There are no Harry Potter series in development at the studio or on the streaming platform,” Warner Bros. and HBO Max said in a statement sent to Variety.

Variety, nevertheless, said they have multiple sources that have confirmed that the project is in the very early stages.

Sources also told The Hollywood Reporter that the series is also in the works, although it faces "complicated rights issues" among its creator J. K. Rowling and its international distributors.

The “Harry Potter” book series is one of the most popular of all time, with the seven books in the series having sold over 500 million copies worldwide. It also has an eight-film franchise which has grossed nearly $8 billion worldwide.
