Motor glitch forces 700 commuters off MRT-3 train

MANILA, Philippines — Around 700 commuters of the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) were told to get off a northbound train at the Boni Avenue station in Mandaluyong City yesterday morning after one of the train’s motors failed.

The rail line said the commuters were transferred to another train that arrived five minutes after the affected train was brought to the MRT-3 depot in Quezon City.

The northbound train suffered an electrical failure after one of its motor’s sub-components gave out at around 8:14 a.m., the MRT-3 said. The sub-component was replaced and the train underwent preventive maintenance.

The MRT-3 said 13 trains were operational as of 1 p.m. yesterday.
