DepEd warns vs Marawi rehab solicitations

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) has warned the public against unauthorized solicitations supposedly for the rehabilitation of schools in Marawi City.

Education Undersecretary Jesus Mateo said they have received reports of unidentified persons who use the name of DepEd officials to ask for money from the public.

He said some of those individuals claim that cash donations will be reimbursed by the Department of Budget and Management.

“Please be informed and warned that such collection/solicitation of donations for the said purpose has not been authorized by DepEd,” said Mateo.

“Please be cautious of such modus operandi and report such occurrence to proper authorities,” he added.

In a separate advisory, DepEd Secretary Leonor Briones also disseminated to school officials and other education stakeholders a similar announcement from Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea.

Medialdea warned the public that the Malacañang has not authorized any person to solicit money for the benefit of Marawi soldiers, senior citizens, the illegal drug campaign or any related cause.
